Survival Point
In the bowels of the shopping center

Blind Spot
This image marks one point of interest on the tour through the Hoog Catharijne shopping-terminal. This is a place on the periphery outside the view of surveillance cameras where youth hang out and junkies get their fix during rush hour traffic. The irony I find in this image is that the spectator is trapped, and in the context of us seeing it again becomes a sculpture, a figure that is either observing or attempting to help the addict in some way . Image source: Duane Hanson’s sculpture Drug Addict from 1974 (together with an unidentified museum guest).
